That about sums it up today! We are so grateful for the love and support we receive and for the health and happiness of loved ones. We're looking forward to a great meal with a few friends at home. Happy Thanksgiving!
Tomorrow is the big turkey day. We're closed for the day at Skinny Legs, but we open the restaurant to a group of Coral Bay residents who host a huge community pot luck feast. Thankspigging has been happening for the past 14 years thanks to Architect Ken, formerly Long-Haired Ken (no need for last names here).
With many people in the community far away from families, Ken (that's him behind the bar which is piled high with food) started hosting a dinner at his house for folks who didn't have anywhere to go on Thanksgiving. He buys a pig and roasts it whole each year and asks anyone who is able, to bring a dish to share. The first Thankspigging drew a crowd and that crowd kept growing.
The party quickly outgrew Ken's house and he's been hosting it at Skinny Legs for quite a few years now. He still buys the whole pig and starts roasting it super early in the morning. People bring all kinds of dishes to share and the bar is full of all those awesome Thanksgiving favorites. There are musicians and beer and and I hear it's a great time. I wouldn't know. Since the party is at Skinny Legs, we would, of course, want to make sure that everything is working properly and running smoothly - far too similar to a work day. So we have a quiet dinner at home and I always escape to the beach for a few hours while the turkey is in the oven.
I get a bit sad being away from my mom and my family during the holidays. So I like taking advantage of the beach on Thanksgiving. Because you certainly can't run out to a beach like this back in Jersey. Happy Thanksgiving!
Hello! Welcome to the brand new Skinny Legs blog! We're super excited to share pictures and goings-on around Coral Bay and St. John with you here. We've been writing a blog for a few weeks over at our Google site at http://coralbaystjohnusvi.blogspot.com/. Please, check it out if you are interested at all about Skinny Legs and life on this beautiful little rock of St. John. Or just check back here. I'll be blogging and linking it all up from now on. Also, if you are on Facebook, we keep a pretty cool page there with lots of great pictures and our latest happenings.
For today, we're super excited because we have a mad love affair with Sundays. It's all about long morning walks, Sunday crossword puzzles, endless cups of coffee, a few hours at the beach and then NFL at Skinny Legs and our amazing pulled pork nachos. Everything in the nachos is home-made - we make the tortilla chips, the salsa, slow roast the pork, everything. You've got to try them! Happy Sunday and cheers!
